Judith M. Korchin has thirty-four years experience as a civil trial lawyer and represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex bet the company cases before state and federal trial and appellate courts and in arbitration. Ms. Korchin practices in litigation with an emphasis in complex commercial litigation and arbitration; defense of class actions; construction litigation and state and local tax litigation. She also serves as the firm's National Alternative Dispute Resolution Team Leader.
Ms. Korchin's clients have included domestic and multi-national corporations (e.g. national boat manufacturer, four national airlines, multi-national airplane manufacturer, national engineering and construction firms, several financial institutions , national sporting goods retailer, national fast food restaurant chains and national broadcasting corporation), high net worth individuals, foreign nationals, charitable organizations and New York Stock Exchange member, firm securities broker/dealer.
Ms. Korchin was an Executive Editor of the University of Florida Law Review (1973-74) and member of Order of the Coif. She served as a federal law clerk to deceased United States Chief Judge of the Southern District of Florida, C. Clyde Atkins (1974-76).
COMMERCIAL LITIGATION Ms. Korchin has both defended and asserted contract claims and business torts in complex business disputes and real property title disputes involving voluminous document discovery and financial analysis. She has often been adverse to state and local governments. She handles intellectual property litigation, including copyright and license rights to computer software and trademark law.
CLASS ACTION DEFENSE: Ms. Korchin has defended class actions involving antitrust issues, construction defects, consumer trade practices and state tax issues.
CONSTRUCTION LITIGATION: Ms. Korchin represents owners, developers, contractors and engineers in design, defect, and delay litigation.
STATE AND LOCAL TAX LITIGATION: Ms. Korchin has been taxpayers' counsel in ad valorem real and personal property tax litigation resulting in exemptions of millions per year and reductions in value up to $24.6 million. She has been taxpayers' counsel for a Florida sales tax exemption of approximately $50 million for an electric power plant's pollution control devices mandated by federal and state law and defended consumer class actions involving Florida sales tax issues.
ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION EXPERIENCE: Arbitration panelist in a $155 million dispute between multibillion dollar company in the medical laboratory field and one of the premier information service companies which had contracted to design, develop and operate a computer software system. Chair of Arbitration Panel in $65 million dispute between national hospital chain and health maintenance organization regarding interpretations of contracts governing scope of coverage and amounts allowed. Arbitration panelist in eight figure dispute between multibillion dollar company in the jet manufacturing business and supplier of jet interiors as to interpretation of contracts governing what was included in contract price for each jet's interior. Advocate in $25 million dollar pre-suit mediation between sellers of aviation defense manufacturing company and multinational corporate purchase who asserted sellers failed to disclose laboratory quality assurance violations which subsequent to the sale of the company resulted in a Department of Justice investigation. Both a sole arbitrator and member of arbitration panels in numerous employment law disputes, including FLSA cases where collective actions are sought and international disputes involving Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and Latin America. An advocate in both mediations and arbitrations.
