Jack L. McLean Jr. has practiced law for 25 years in the areas of labor and employment, commercial litigation, administrative and regulatory litigation, municipal and governmental litigation, zoning and land use litigation. As a trial lawyer he represented national, regional and public employers in jury and non-jury trials in individual and class action employment cases and labor controversies. He consulted with and counseled employers on numerous labor issues. In union representational proceedings, arbitration, and strikes, he trained, counseled and advised employers on union corporate campaign strategy, RICO violations, consumer boycotts, direct dealing, and strike misconduct. He is an integral part of the national planning with and training for national clients’ managers and supervisors in negotiating collective bargaining agreements and coordinating strike preparation.
Mr. McLean successfully defended employers in Fair Labor Standards Act litigation, First Amendment and Section 1983 property and due process claims, public accommodations claims, racial and ethnic discrimination claims, sexual harassment charges, equal pay act claims, rehabilitation act and ADA suits, non-compete litigation and hospital privilege/antitrust litigation. In the area of labor law, he trained and advised employers in organization campaigns, secondary picketing and enforcement machinery of the National Labor Relations Board and State Boards. He is experienced in representing employers in representational proceedings and unfair labor practice proceedings.
He has extensive experience advising on personnel and human resources matters, and employment practices including drafting contracts, policies and procedures. He has taught courses and spoken to various groups on employment-related topics, including the Annual Employment Law Seminar sponsored by the National Employment Law Conference, and has published many articles on employment law matters.
He previously served as Mayor/Commissioner for Tallahassee, Fla., adjunct professor for Private and Public Sector law at Florida A&M University, adjunct professor for Civil Trial Practice at Florida State University College of Law, and currently is the City Attorney for Quincy, Fla.
He is active in his community, serving on volunteer panels for legal services and legal aid societies and sponsors a reading/scholarship program in Gadsden County, Florida.
