James H. Shimberg, Jr., a partner in Holland & Knight’s Tampa office, is the Practice Group Leader of the Tampa Bay Real Estate Group and immediate past co-chair of the firm’s National Land Use Practice Group. He practices in the area of land use, zoning and real estate law. He also has a local government legislative practice focusing on the seven counties and numerous cities in the Tampa Bay area. He has represented clients before local, regional, and state governmental bodies, focusing on issues relating to zoning, land use, local government comprehensive planning, developments of regional impact, land development and permitting issues, and vested rights for both commercial and residential properties. Mr. Shimberg’s practice involves frequent interaction with local, regional and state government entities in Florida. He also focuses on developer representation in residential and commercial transactions, including all aspects of the development of residential and commercial properties.
He served from 1993-99 on the Florida Governor’s Commission on Community Service. He is a former member of the City of Tampa Code Enforcement Board, the Board of Trustees of Congregation Schaarai Zedek, and the Tampa Jewish Federation’s Weinberg Village Assisted Living Facility. Mr. Shimberg was the Executive Partner of Holland & Knight's Tampa office from 1999-02.
During law school, Mr. Shimberg was a member of the University of Florida Law Review. He holds the highest rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
