Kristin A. DeKuiper is a member of the Tax Credit Transactions Practice Group of Holland & Knight. She has extensive experience in the structuring of partnerships, limited liability companies and joint ventures, and with capital raising and financing in the corporate and partnership context. Her partnership and joint venture experience includes projects involving low income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, and new markets tax credits, hotels, commercial and multifamily residential real estate, assisted living projects, and theatrical productions. She has also handled venture capital transactions, securities offerings, and numerous small business transactions.
Ms. DeKuiper represents developers, investors, syndicators, and lenders in low income housing tax credit, historic tax credit, new markets tax credits and state tax credit transactions nationwide. She also has significant experience in tax and business issues related to limited liability companies. She was a principal draftsperson of Rhode Island’s LLC statute and the regulations for Rhode Island's state historic tax credit.
Ms. DeKuiper was the American Bar Association Liaison (Central and East European Law Initiative) to the Law Institute of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava, Czechoslovakia from February through May 1992, where she rendered advice to the Slovak Ministry of Justice regarding the development and application of new business laws designed to implement the transition to a market economy.
Ms. DeKuiper is a frequent speaker at meetings of the National Council of State Housing Agencies, the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association, Novogradac & Company, the Reznik Group, and CLE courses sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Rhode Island Bar Association. Presentations have addressed limited liability companies, limited partnerships, partnership taxation, low income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, new markets tax credits, securities law, and privatization in Eastern Europe.
While in law school Ms. DeKuiper was an associate editor of the Utah Law Review. From 1978-79, she was a law clerk to Justice Alfred H. Joslin of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, and in 1979 was a visiting scholar at Charles University Law School in Prague, Czechoslovakia, on a fellowship sponsored by the International Research and Exchanges Board.
