Melissa K. Nelson practices in the real estate section of the Jacksonville office of Holland & Knight LLP advising developers, builders and resort owners and operators throughout the state of Florida and the Caribbean in the areas of hospitality, resort, master planned communities (single family home residential, commercial and mixed use), condominium, condo conversion and condominium hotel developments. Ms. Nelson has extensive experience representing clients with respect to planning, development and operation of master planned and mixed use communities, including obtaining federal trademark registrations and land sales registrations at the federal and state levels (including preparation of HUD and state registrations). She has experience preparing various operational agreements including shared facilities, rental program, basic services and management agreements, and represents numerous clients developing high-end resort developments with extensive amenities, including golf courses, beach clubs, marinas, shopping, restaurants and conference centers. Ms. Nelson also practices in the area of condominium litigation, financing, as well as sales and acquisitions of real property. She has been a featured speaker at several seminars focusing on condominium and homeowners association law.
During law school, Ms. Nelson was the executive symposium editor of the Emory Law Journal. Ms. Nelson received the 2003 Dean’s Public Service Award, the ABA and BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property Law and is in Who’s Who: American Law Students 2002 & 2003. She also earned book awards in trademark, licensing and constitutional criminal procedure.
