Robert C. "Bob" MacKichan Jr.

Senior Counsel
Washington
t: 202-862-5962

Bob MacKichan specializes in the area of government real estate representing building owners, real estate developers, property managers and commercial brokers nationwide, in matters relating to federal real estate. He is a member of Holland & Knight's Government Real Estate Asset Services group providing legal counsel in all aspects of government lease procurement and administration, real estate acquisition and disposition, enhanced use leasing, and government construction and administration. As a former General Counsel of the U.S. General Services Administration, he is uniquely qualified to assist clients in navigating the myriad of legal and procedural issues involved in government real estate matters, particularly the government's primary landlords, the U.S. General Services Administration (“GSA”), Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs.

As a means of supporting his clients' real estate objectives, Mr. MacKichan monitors the Government's process of acquiring space to meet the needs of the federal workforce by providing clients with time sensitive information relating to planned lease procurements and assisting clients in the process of offering facilities for Government use. With security concerns playing a larger role in government real estate transactions, Mr. MacKichan has developed the expertise to constructively advise his clients in meeting the new government's requirements. During his tenure with the U.S. General Services Administration, he handled a broad spectrum of legal issues, including the authorization for the construction of the International Cultural and Trade Center building (now named the Ronald Reagan Federal Building) in Washington, DC and the utilization of public bond financing for several GSA projects. As a means of encouraging greater private sector interest in leasing office space to the government, Mr. MacKichan formed at GSA the Lease Revision Task Force, resulting in numerous changes in the standard clauses of government leases. As a former chief executive officer and business owner, Mr. MacKichan offers clients a heightened awareness of the challenges facing the business community and brings to the table seasoned business acumen.
