Rob Lang is a member of Holland & Knight's Litigation Practice Group in Chicago. He has represented various clients from entrepreneurs to publicly-traded corporations in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on real estate related litigation (including disputes as to leases, purchase agreements, environmental issues and brokers); shareholder and valuation disputes; alternative dispute resolution; intellectual property (including disputes as to restrictive covenants and trade secrets); and commercial torts (including fraud, consumer fraud and tortious interference).
Mr. Lang's representations have included first chair jury trial and arbitration experience including the following examples:
- Obtaining a not guilty arbitration award for a general partner to a large real estate venture in Chicago as to a multi-million dollar claim brought by several well known professional athletes.
- Obtaining a judgment after a trial for a partner who was a shareholder in an automobile dealership business where his client was awarded money damages as well as attorney's fees as an exception to the "American Rule" which generally does not allow successful plaintiffs to recover attorney's fees.
- Obtaining not guilty verdicts for a public transportation entity in personal injury lawsuits, successfully winning a counterclaim for his client in one of those cases.
- Winning a dismissal upon summary judgment in federal court for his client in defending a large claim for breach of an alleged stock purchase agreement.
- Winning a dismissal upon summary judgment in a wrongful death case for his client who owned a horse stable.
- Winning a dismissal upon a motion to dismiss for a developer accused of conspiracy and tortious interference.
- Obtaining a multi-million dollar settlement for a publicly-traded food distributor in its claim against a publicly-traded restaurant chain for breach of a master distribution agreement.
- Obtaining a dismissal upon summary judgment for a publicly-traded client in defending a commercial eviction claim.
- Obtaining a successful settlement for a barge company in defending a fifteen million dollar claim for breach of an alleged assignment of lease agreement.
- Representing licensees of technology as to license agreement disputes, including those involving alleged royalties due the licensor.
- Representing shareholders in oppression and valuation disputes.
- Representing developers in specific performance and breach of contract cases.
Mr. Lang performs pro bono work for Marklund, a home for the severely disabled in suburban Chicago.
