Steven L. D'Alessandro is a partner in the firm's New York office and is a member of the Litigation Section. Mr. D'Alessandro's practice focuses on federal white collar criminal defense, internal corporate investigations and related civil litigation.
Mr. D'Alessandro is a highly experienced litigator with substantial trial and appellate advocacy experience. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. D'Alessandro was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Eastern District of New York from 2003 to 2009, previously serving in that office as a Special Assistant United States Attorney from 2000 to 2002. As a federal prosecutor, Mr. D'Alessandro was responsible for investigating and prosecuting a wide range of crimes, including fraud, obstruction of justice, bribery, trademark violations, murder, RICO, money laundering, alien smuggling and narcotics trafficking. In that time, Mr. D'Alessandro gained extensive litigation experience, trying over ten federal criminal trials, eight of which as lead trial counsel, and having argued a number of matters before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits. Moreover, as many of his cases involved the seizure of assets, Mr. D’Alessandro also earned significant experience with criminal forfeiture proceedings. With the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. D'Alessandro served in the distinguished position of Senior Litigation Counsel for the Public Integrity Section where he was responsible for investigating and prosecuting complex frauds and high-profile corruption cases. Before that, Mr. D'Alessandro was a Deputy Chief of the Narcotics Section, responsible for supervising over a dozen prosecutors involved in international and domestic investigations of highly-organized criminal enterprises. For two years, Mr. D'Alessandro also served as the Eastern District's lead prosecutor for the New York State Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Before working in the Eastern District of New York, Mr. D'Alessandro served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the District of New Jersey for two years. In that capacity, he was responsible for all aspects of civil forfeiture proceedings and handled matters related to, among other things, quota and trademark violations.
Mr. D'Alessandro began his legal career with the Department of the Treasury, United States Customs Service, where he worked for over four years as one of its senior attorneys in New York. As an attorney for the Customs Service, Mr. D'Alessandro handled regulatory and enforcement related issues and gained a wealth of experience with matters involving the international border, as well as administrative and judicial forfeiture.
In addition to his government service, Mr. D'Alessandro was an adjunct professor of law at Brooklyn Law School for a number of years, where he taught legal writing and appellate advocacy and was also part of the school's prosecutors' clinic. Mr. D'Alessandro has also instructed prosecutors and federal agents at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center, as well as other speaking engagements, on trial advocacy and substantive legal issues, such as Border Search Authority, Search and Seizure, Asset Forfeiture, and Electronic and Wire Surveillance.
