Steven Taub is a Partner in Holland & Knight's Litigation Section. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including class action lawsuits, contract disputes, business torts and property rights claims. Mr. Taub also has extensive experience in product liability litigation and in mediation and arbitration.
Mr. Taub has represented a diverse group of clients, including companies in the transportation, telecommunication, mining and insurance industries. Mr. Taub has successfully litigated cases in federal and state courts throughout the country. He has also achieved good results through out of court settlements, including settlements of class actions.
Examples of his recent litigation and counseling experience include the following:
- Achieved favorable results in class actions filed in federal and state courts. Represented clients in class actions in the transportation, telecommunication, and insurance industries. Successes include defeating class certification, prevailing on dispositive motions, and negotiating and implementing favorable class settlements.
- Defeated class certification in federal court case claiming damages for the placement of fiber optic cable on railroad right of way.
- Procured summary judgment and dismissal in a number of similar actions.
- Negotiated favorable class settlement in action involving the disposition of abandoned railroad property.
- After initial dismissal, negotiated favorable class settlement in case involving the sale of FCC lottery applications.
- Represented insurance company in class actions involving consumer protection and fraud claims resulting from the sale of allegedly tax benefited insurance products.
- Served as lead counsel in a diverse docket of large-scale commercial cases. Handled commercial cases for major companies in the mining, transportation, telecommunications, and insurance industries.
- Achieved favorable settlement for railroad in contract matter involving the use of railroad's right of way.
- Prevailed on motion in contract claims in trial court and in the Fourth Circuit regarding the sale of FCC lottery applications.
- Prevailed in arbitrations regarding the termination of coal leases and in federal court proceedings contesting those awards.
- Defended major companies in product liability cases. Companies represented include a leading manufacturer of heavy equipment, a tire manufacturer, and a chemical company.
- Provides counsel regarding right of way and property rights questions. Serves as national counsel to a Class 1 railroad in a series of class actions and other suits involving property related claims arising from the placement of telecommunication and other facilities on railroad corridor.
