Shannon Hartsfield Salimone is the regulatory and litigation leader of the firm's Healthcare & Life Sciences Team. She practices in the area of health law, advising clients on state and federal healthcare regulatory matters, including corporate and regulatory compliance, data privacy, licensure, prescription drug distribution and pharmaceutical pedigree requirements and telemedicine. Ms. Salimone's clients include assisted living facilities, health plans, medical technology companies, continuing care retirement communities, nursing homes, hospitals and large clinics, pharmaceutical distributors, blood and tissue banks, pharmacies, and medical and benefit management companies, among other members of the healthcare industry. Ms. Salimone's representative client experience includes the following:

  • advised healthcare providers and business associates on responding to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights in HIPAA-related investigations
  • advised technology companies, hospitals and large physician organizations on issues related to health information exchange and meaningful use
  • assisted healthcare entities in developing HIPAA compliance programs and conducting risk analyses
  • advised healthcare entities on Florida regulatory and licensure matters involving Florida's Department of Health and the Agency for Health Care Administration
  • assisted healthcare entities with voluntary disclosures related to Stark compliance
  • represented pharmaceutical distributors in connection with compliance issues involving Florida's drugs, devices and cosmetics statutes
  • assisted healthcare providers with drafting patient admissions agreements and consent forms
  • drafted HIPAA policies and procedures, business associate agreements and notices of privacy practices
  • assisted clients in responding to data breaches and security incidents
