Governmental Consumer Protection Investigations Attorney Anthony DiResta Moves to Holland & Knight

WASHINGTON (January 22, 2015) –  Well-known governmental consumer protection investigations attorney Anthony DiResta has joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C., office. Mr. DiResta, who is a former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regional director, comes to Holland & Knight from Winston & Strawn.

Mr. DiResta focuses his practice on investigations involving allegations of deceptive, unfair or abusive business practices, charges of false advertising, and privacy and data security matters. He has successfully represented companies and individuals in more than 50 investigations and litigations pursued by the FTC, Consumer Financial Protection Board (CFPB), Department of Justice and other federal agencies, as well as in state enforcement proceedings involving state attorneys general.

"Tony is a seasoned advocate with a track record of successful results for clients, with many in crisis or 'bet-the-company' situations," said Lynn Calkins, the leader of Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C. Litigation Group. "His experience defending investigations and enforcement actions brought by the CFPB is especially valuable given the continued growth of the agency's mission in both size and scope and the resulting impact on the companies that we represent in the financial services industry."

Mr. DiResta is a prominent authority on social media and serves as general counsel and director of regulatory affairs for the Word of Mouth Marketing Association, an advertising trade association that focuses on social media and digital marketing. A frequent author and speaker, he is quoted regularly in the media on issues ranging from FTC and CFPB investigations and consumer protection regulations to First Amendment rights.

"Holland & Knight provides a strong platform on which to expand my practice, particularly with respect to CFPB-related litigation and enforcement for both banking and non-banking financial institutions," said Mr. DiResta. "One of the core strengths of the firm is its national financial services team, and I look forward to helping my new colleagues service the needs of their clients in this growing area of the law."

Mr. DiResta received a J.D. degree from Florida State University, an Ed.M. from Harvard University and a B.A. from Rollins College.
