Holland & Knight Raises $70,600 for Jacksonville Organizations Benefiting At-Risk Children

Jacksonville, Fla. – (July 14, 2015) – Holland & Knight has awarded $70,600 in grants to 24 local community organizations assisting at-risk children. For the fifth year in a row, lawyers and staff in the firm's Jacksonville office contributed money as part of the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation, Inc., Jacksonville Local Donor Advised Fund. 

The office's Committee for the Public Good prepared and distributed grant applications and then met over three weeks to determine which organizations would receive the awards. The Committee received requests for funding worthy causes such as: camp scholarships for children with special needs, an anti-bullying program,  a scouting program for urban youth, arts and music education programs and hospice care for low income children.

"This gift will allow us to serve at-risk youth this summer at Camp Connections. With the support of generous community organizations like Holland & Knight, Community Connections is healing homelessness and fighting poverty one life at a time," said Lelia Duncan, CEO of Community Connections

R. Wayne Rieley, president and CEO of Lutheran Social Services and Nourishment Network said, "The grant will help Nourishment Network fight childhood hunger in our community by supporting our Back Pack program initiative, which sends home free, nutritious food with low-income students each Friday to help get their families through the weekend."

Holland & Knight partner Suzanne Judas, who serves as chair of the Committee for Public Good, stated, "Finding ways to 'Do Good' in our communities has been a tradition at Holland & Knight since the firm's founding in 1968. Through our grant program in Jacksonville we have discovered the many ways that organizations in our community 'Do Good' by providing services to at-risk children. These organizations give so much in time and resources to children that need our help and hearts and we are excited that we are able to support some of them with our grants. We look forward to continuing our local grant program in 2016 funded entirely by the attorneys and staff in the Jacksonville office."
