Holland & Knight Participates in NYSE Opening Bell Ceremony Marking Second Annual 9/11 Day of Service

NEW YORK – September 11, 2012 - Today, Bill Honan, executive partner of Holland & Knight's New York office, joined representatives from MyGoodDeed, Inc., the nonprofit that annually organizes the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

My Good Deed, Inc. was formed by the brother of Glenn Winuk, a former Holland & Knight partner and volunteer EMT, who lost his life on 9/11 while volunteering at the World Trade Center. The annual Day of Service and Remembrance honors and remembers Glenn and the many volunteers and victims of 9/11. Last year, 33 million Americans were inspired to engage in charitable activities and good deeds in observance of 9/11, transforming September 11 into America’s largest annual day of charitable activity.

Holland & Knight is a major sponsor of the annual Day of Service and Remembrance along with Target, American Express, GlaxoSmithKline, Cantor Fitzgerald and NFL Charities. Additionally, the firm encourages all of its attorneys and staff to participate in volunteer projects in partnership with local community and charitable organizations. Last year, Holland & Knight employees, colleagues, clients, families and friends donated over 2,200 days of service benefitting over 58 nonprofit organizations across the country.

In addition to Bill Honan, David Paine and Jay Winuk, co-founders of the 9/11 Day Observance; Tim Armstrong, chairman & CEO of AOL and co-founder of Action America; Kenny Dichter, co-founder of Action America; Eric Greitens, CEO of The Mission Continues; Tyson Chandler of the NY Knicks; Alex Morgan, 2012 U.S. Women’s Olympic Soccer Gold Medalist; representatives from American Express and GlaxoSmithKline; and 9/11 family members were present at the opening bell ceremony.
