The Morning Risk Report: Supreme Court Ruling To Rein in RICO Cases

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision this week to limit the application of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act to private suits is projected to offer protection to U.S. companies and decrease the number of RICO cases introduced by foreign persons.

Attorney Jeremy Sternberg said, "The decision, delivered by Justice Samuel Alito, made a policy-minded argument that could be used in similar disputes over the extraterritorial application of statutes." However, he considers the actual court holding to be "pretty narrow."
