Holland & Knight Recommended as Top Law Firm in Mexico, Colombia and Internationally in 2014 Latin Lawyer 250 Guide

"…when it comes to Latin America, this firm is on a mission." ˗ Latin Lawyer 250

MIAMI (March 17, 2014) Holland & Knight is recommended as one of Latin America's leading law firms worldwide, with noteworthy practices in the U.S., Mexico and Colombia, in the latest edition of Latin Lawyer 250, the definitive guide to the leading business law firms of Latin America.

Holland & Knight's U.S.-based Latin America Practice is one of only 47 recommended in the guide. The group is noted for its work in the areas of corporate and M&A, banking and finance, arbitration, litigation, and white-collar crime and compliance. Several attorneys are acknowledged for their experience with cross-border engagements, including Latin America practice chair Roberto Pupo, Financial Services practice chair, Joe Sirven, and co-chair of the International & Cross Border Transactions group, George Mencio. Holland & Knight attorneys Ina María Berlingeri, John Brownlee, Maria Currier, Jesús Cuza, Stephen Double, Dan Fridman, Enrique Gómez-Pinzón, Alex Gonzalez, Alberto Hernandez, Adolfo Jimenez, Alejandro Landa, Tom Morante, Boris Otto, José Antonio Prado, Norberto Quintana, Guillermo Uribe and Don Zarin were also singled out for praise.

The guide describes Holland & Knight's recent "bold" moves to establish a strong presence in Mexico and Colombia and boost its corporate and finance practice in New York and Miami as a sign that "when it comes to Latin America, this firm is on a mission." The guide also noted that: "Overall, Latin America is a strong geographical area of focus for this U.S. firm – a fact that has been very much demonstrated in the last two years." Holland & Knight has opened new offices in Bogota (2012) and Mexico City (2013) and recruited nearly 30 attorneys to its Latin America Practice Group in the past few years.

Latin Lawyer's research process includes polling legal practitioners operating in Latin America and canvassing their clients; thousands of visits to law firms and face-to-face interviews in all 18 Latin American countries covered, as well as in the United States, Canada and Europe; and collecting feedback from corporate counsel.

Mexico
Holland & Knight's Mexico team received accolades for its work in banking and finance, capital markets and energy, with special mentions for Boris Otto, Alejandro Landa, José Antonio Prado, Guillermo Uribe and Miriam Grunstein. The newest member of the team, Mr. Uribe, was singled out for his experience with Mexican REITs (Fibras). The guide noted: "When it comes to FIBRAs, Uribe is one of the most recognized names in the market . . . ." The team's leader, Mr. Otto, is a "recognized name in Mexico's broader financial community," according to the guide.

Colombia
Holland & Knight's Bogotá office is "helmed by the impressive figure of Enrique Gómez-Pinzón," who maintains a "thriving international arbitration practice," according to Latin Lawyer. The guide also recognizes the "highly regarded" Juan Carlos Valencia, who spearheads the tax department, and labor and employment attorney Vicente Umaña, who clients "praised for his efficient, effective, timely and trustworthy manner."
