PTO Provides Examiners with Guidance on Software Patents in Light of U.S. SC Ruling

After a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision invalidated some methods and patents, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office offered guidance on software patents to its examiners. Intellectual Property Partner Jacob Baron said this guidance is good for the software industry as it allows companies to protect their intellectual property investments in truly inventive Information Age technology.

“It provides meaningful instructions for drafting patent eligible inventions,” Mr. Baron said.
