The risk environment continues to hand out surprises. The British Petroleum oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico and subsequent catastrophic oil gusher provide the most recent example. The world has experienced many oil spills over the years, with Exxon Valdez being one of the worst. No one should be too surprised that an offshore oil rig exploded, resulting in loss of life and a catastrophic oil leak.
