The winter storm that left millions of Texans without power and water last week is expected to generate the most residential and business insurance claims stemming from a single event in state history. The storm caused widespread property damage and forced business closures across the state. The type of damage associated with broken pipes – water damage, the need for mold remediation, plumbers, and contractors – will add pressure on insurers to investigate the claims promptly.
