Holland & Knight Offers Advice to Council of Great Lakes Governors

Chicago Daily Law Bulletin

Holland & Knight got selected among several law firms to provide legal advice to the Council of Great Lakes Governors. The council serves as the administrative department to the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact — an agreement between the eight states surrounding the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. Steven M. Elrod, executive partner at Holland & Knight, holds the primary responsibility for the council's legal work, along with Partner Barbara A. Adams and Associate Hart M. Passman.

"We will provide all legal services they require, including general consultation," Mr. Elrod said. "We have already been asked to review their corporate documents, their bylaws, their rules and procedures."

The firm's background will benefit the council, says Ms. Adams. "We have a perspective in water law in terms of a public sector side and a private sector side, and we also represent a lot of different levels of governmental perspective," she said. "We understand the balance of policy and business that needs to go into these kinds of operations."
