Wacky Beer Laws Reflect Power of Special Interests

Florida's laws on beer seem to pit craft brewers and the Big Beer establishment, including big names like Budweiser, against each other. Representatives of the growing craft beer industry say allowing 64-ounce growlers or beer tastings at stores like Publix and Costco, among other propositions, are shot down because the bigger, established names in beer want to squash the competition.

"This is about competing industries," said Alcohol Beverage Attorney Josh Aubuchon, general counsel to the craft brewers in the Florida Brewers Guild. "And there's extremely powerful lobbying."
