With registration for the new EU-U.S. data transfer agreement beginning next month, companies should keep two beneficial aspects in mind: first, the coincidence of the agreement with the EU's new General Data Protection Regulation, and second, the nine-month compliance grace period allotted to companies that act within two months.
"I think if you are a large global corporation, I would put privacy shield side by side with GDPR," noted Senior Policy Advisor Norma Krayem. Ms. Krayem also noted that "language in Privacy Shield [acknowledges] that it will take time for companies to become compliant."
