According to the Iowa Ethics Opinion, when lawyers change law firms, there are specific guidelines for themselves, their existing law firms and potential law firms. There are 14 factors that come into play when Iowa lawyers need a reference for legal and ethical issues that may arise from lawyer mobility and law firm break ups.
“In general, I think it goes too far announcing aspirational bright-line rules without acknowledging the reality of the business of lawyer mobility or the incredible complexity that is sometimes at play,” Legal Ethics attorney Allison Martin Rhodes told Bloomberg BNA.
