ISAO SO Examines Impact of International Standards on Info-Sharing

Inside Cybersecurity

The Information Sharing and Analysis Organization Standards Organization (ISAO SO) is seeking working group participation in examining both the positive and negative impacts of international data requirements on sharing cyber-threat indicators, with a focus on new European Union rules and China's cybersecurity law.

Global Cybersecurity and Privacy Policy & Regulation Chair Norma Krayem, one of the leaders of the effort, told Inside Cybersecurity that "the ISAO SO International Working Group is focused on helping ISAOs understand and navigate through the complexities of global structures that may encourage, inhibit or otherwise impact how ISAOs run and operate."

"Cybersecurity information sharing is a critical component and increasingly other countries, like the EU and others, are mandating how security and privacy are managed. The current project will focus on key laws and regulations like [the EU's] GDPR, the new Chinese Cybersecurity Law, data localization laws, APEC Cross Border Data Rules, the EU NIS Directive and other mandatory cyber incident reporting rules around the world. It will identify areas that ISAOs need to be aware of so that they can be prepared to navigate successfully through the process."
