Law360 interviewed multiple lawyers, including Toni Nguyen, for an insightful article on why in-house attorneys often transition to law firms. Ms. Nguyen is a former general counsel of a cloud-based software company and decided to accept an offer for a senior counsel role at Holland & Knight's Austin office in September 2018.
"The longstanding rationale about working less and having a more predictable lifestyle in-house is becoming a myth," Ms. Nguyen told Law360. "You're working equally as hard and long hours in-house as you do at a firm."
After working in-house for the past 15 years, Ms. Nguyen says she enjoys the exposure that private practice offers and the opportunity to meet an array of lawyers in other practice groups at the firm. Her in-house knowledge and credibility helps her provide examples of similar situations she's handled in the past and aids in navigating issues for her clients and reaching solutions.
