Partner Germaine Nicole Gurr spoke with the Chicago Tribune about Dusty Baker, a former Cubs manager, who has started his own energy business, Baker Energy Team. Baker Energy Team does large projects for historically black universities, tribal reservations and commercial businesses in Sacramento, CA. Mr. Baker's business is unlike other energy start-ups in that Mr. Baker provides mentorships and internships for engineering students at historically black colleges to promote diversity in the industry.
"You don't see people like Dusty Baker, period, not just in the solar industry," says Ms. Gurr. "In order to tap into the solar industry, it does require access to capital and contacts. Those tend to be areas where there are glass ceilings for minorities and women."
