Insurance Transactions and Regulatory attorney Mark Delegal spoke to the Tampa Bay Times about the House Insurance & Banking Subcommittee approving a bill involving genetic testing. This new law will stop insurers from using genetic information in the underwriting process and premiums. However, it will not apply to long-term coverage or life insurance.
Mr. Delegal, who is an insurance lobbyist, states that the purpose of life insurance policies is for the free and open exchange of information. “Insurers have one bite at the apple to estimate the risk of 30 to 40 years in the future,” said Mr. Delegal.
