Attorney Stewart Weiss discussed the ramifications of Illinois' Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act at the Glencoe Village Board Committee of the Whole meeting. Northbrook and neighboring communities have expressed interest in opening dispensaries and Glencoe board members have suggested that the town should be given the opportunity. Public safety and other issues have remained a concern if facilities were to open.
"The facilities want to get up and running Jan. 1 and if the state will not give them a license unless there is some level of (assurance) the community is supportive and welcoming," Mr. Weiss said. “The fear of somebody coming in and wildcatting a site in the middle of downtown, I am not worried about that."
