NIST Framework Could be Harbinger of U.S. Privacy Rules

Senior Policy Advisor Norma Krayem commented on a draft set of rules issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to regulate how companies handle consumer data. The U.S. government agency sets best practices for the science and technology sectors.

"The bottom line is that the NIST privacy framework version 1.0 will be done before Congress passes any privacy legislation," Ms. Krayem said. "So this document will be filling the gap for the purpose of what a federal privacy framework should be."
