Know the Labor Implications in terms of Social Security for Companies

Labor, Employment and Benefits Partner Vicente Umaña Carrizosa was cited in an Asuntos Legales article describing the level of responsibility that falls on companies who employ essential workers when it comes to healthcare. These employees are leaving their homes, therefore, they are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. Mr. Umaña Carrizosa indicated that there is no place for compensation in favor of a worker who becomes infected beyond those established in the social security and pension system.

"The worker could sue like anyone, but it is remote that he wins if the employer provides him the training for safe displacement and they adopt sanitary measures," Mr. Umaña Carrizosa said.
