As State AGs Rush Into Policy Battles, Big Law Is Seizing the Opportunity

Partner Jim Schultz was quoted in The American Lawyer about how numerous large law firms have started attorney general practices to offer expertise to clients in disparate industries, including pharmaceuticals, retail and technology. Mr. Schultz co-heads our State Attorney General practice with former Virginia deputy attorney general Stephen Cobb. The growing strength and visibility of state AGs has been a steady trend for nearly two decades—one that gains ground with each regulatory victory and multibillion-dollar settlement.

“People thought attorneys general were just law and order officials and criminal prosecutors,” said Mr. Schultz. “They’re using that broad authority now to push policy and regulatory ideas.”
