The Electric Reform Opens the Door to Change the Legislation of the State-Owned Pemex

Energy attorney Claudio Rodríguez spoke to Expansion about the electric initiative proposed by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The electric reform seeks to transform the rules under which Pemex operates. The initiative aims to designate Pemex as a State agency. Mr. Rodriguez said this initiative will be a step towards the national company prioritizing social goals, rather than economic ones.
"This means that they intend to take away from Pemex its characteristic of being a productive State company. They don't say it here, but based on this paragraph, they will later change the nature of Pemex," he said.
