Some Are Saved from the Bill of Landing

International trade attorney María Teresa Quintero commented for Reforma about Mexico's Bill of Landing and how it affects the transport of merchandise in the country. Certain activities such as the transportation of light cargo and account statements would not fall under this document. Ms. Quintero said that the Bill of Landing will apply only to federal routes. Therefore, carriers must be aware of local regulations to transport their goods.

"Its functionality (use of the Bill of Landing) is going to be seen once the SAT collects all that information and we will know what it is going to do with it, if it is going to be able to audit and through that audit it is going to combat smuggling as it has pointed out, which is one of the functions," she explained.
