New Cybersecurity Rules Threaten Defense Industrial Base
Law360
Government contracts and cybersecurity attorney Eric Crusius was quoted in a Law360 article about the potential impact of the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) new Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) rule on the defense industrial base. The article discussed concerns that the stringent cybersecurity requirements and associated compliance costs may drive away some contractors, particularly small businesses, from the defense market. Mr. Crusius highlighted the disproportionate burden the rule places on smaller companies and its potential to reduce competition in the defense sector.
"Small businesses, they are certainly catching the brunt of this," he said. "They're going to have to comply, just like their larger business brethren, and that's going to be a burden, and it's going to chase some businesses out of the marketplace. ... There's really not a way to have this as a win for everybody at this point."
