MIAMI – Bruce Jay Colan, a partner in Holland & Knight's Miami office, began his one-year term as Chairman of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber's 2009 Annual Goals Conference in Miami on May 30, 2009.
As Chairman, Colan will work closely with the Chamber's committees to promote the service of its members through advocacy, domestic and international business development, leadership, marketing, and a vast array of member services and programs. Colan has been actively involved in chamber committees since 1990. He served as chair for the New World Center Committee, founded and chaired the Cuba Committee, and co-authored the chamber's 2009 publication, The Business Impact of A Post-Embargo Cuba.
Colan practices in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate law and sports. His experience includes planning, structuring, negotiating and implementing mergers, acquisitions and dispositions of businesses, corporate and other entities, financings and reorganizations, complex corporate, sports, real estate and international transactions and general corporate counseling. Among other things, he led a team of Holland & Knight attorneys in drafting and negotiating development, management, operating and financing agreements for The Miami Heat with Miami-Dade County for the American Airlines Arena. He received his B.S. in finance from Penn State University and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
