Holland & Knight Partner Howell Melton Elected Vice Chair of Enterprise Florida Board

Orlando, Fla. – February 10, 2011 – Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Howell Melton, a partner in the firm's Orlando office, has been elected Vice Chair of Enterprise Florida's Board of Directors. As Vice Chair of Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI), Melton will work closely with the Board's Chair, newly elected Florida Governor Rick Scott, other board members and staff, to diversify Florida's economy and create high-wage job growth. The Vice Chair's gavel was passed to Melton by Allan Bense, a former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and President CEO of Bense Enterprises Inc, during EFI's Board of Directors meeting in Tallahassee on January 27, 2011. (Photograph Included) Governor Scott joined Melton in presiding over the Board Meeting. Melton will serve a two-year term.

EFI's Board of Directors is comprised of top businesses, economic development and government leaders statewide. EFI is a public private partnership and is the principal economic development organization for the State of Florida. Its mission is to diversify Florida's economy and create better paying jobs for its citizens by supporting, attracting and helping to create globally competitive businesses in innovative, high-growth industries.

Melton, who has appeared in courtrooms throughout the United States, practices primarily in the area of business litigation. He has substantial experience in the representation of clients in a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology, media and entertainment. In 2011, Melton was named a "Best Lawyer" in Commercial Litigation for the sixth consecutive year by The Best Lawyers in America Guide.

Melton, who is now a Senior Partner at Holland & Knight, served as the firm's global Managing Partner from April 2003 to April 2008. He has chaired the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission and the Central Florida Technology Partnership. He is a former trustee of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce and former board member and founder of the Leadership Orlando Alumni Association. Currently, Melton is a resident member of The Florida Council of 100, The Florida Council on Military Base and Mission Support, and is active as a trustee emeritus for the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
