The City of Des Plaines Selects Holland & Knight to Serve as Its General Counsel

CHICAGO – August 6, 2012 – Holland & Knight LLP has been chosen to serve as general counsel to the city of Des Plaines, Ill. The firm will provide counsel on a broad range of legal issues, including parliamentary procedures, zoning and building code regulations, finance issues, and Freedom of Information Act and Open Meetings Act compliance. Firm partners Steven M. Elrod and Peter Friedman will be principally responsible for the representation, with Mr. Friedman attending all City Council meetings.

Located in Cook County, Des Plaines is a growing municipality with a population of more than 50,000. The city is comprised of residential areas, schools, park districts and medical facilities, as well as commercial, industrial, retail and service-oriented companies.  It is also home to several Fortune 500 companies and Rivers Casino, the newest and most profitable land-based casino in Illinois. For more than 50 years, the city had an in-house attorney who oversaw all legal issues.
