San Francisco (March 12, 2014) - Holland & Knight continues to grow its West Coast Land Use & Environmental practice area with the addition of a partner, Tara Kaushik, who brings a strong background in the representation of energy companies. Ms. Kaushik has advised oil refineries, natural gas pipeline operations, tribal entities, clean technology firms, water utilities and renewable power companies in all stages of proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
"Tara adds to the breadth of our statewide land use and environmental practice in a big way," said Jennifer Hernandez, practice group leader for the West Coast Land Use & Environmental practice group. "We have seen more opportunities to assist clients before the CPUC, and Tara has led clients through all types of cases before the agency, including rate and complaint matters. She has also dealt with administrative, appellate and antitrust law issues for energy company clients."
Among Ms. Kaushik's clients is a large energy company for which she has handled litigation regarding power outages at a refinery and advised on administrative rulemaking proceedings before the CPUC. She also has represented the Navajo Nation and its subsidiary in its acquisition of a mine and other litigation.
"I'm delighted to join Holland & Knight's Land Use & Environmental practice group. The firm has the perfect platform for my energy and tribal law practice," said Ms. Kaushik.
Ms. Kaushik received a B.A. magna cum laude from Santa Clara University and a J.D. degree from Santa Clara University School of Law. She was formerly a lawyer at Manatt Phelps & Phillips in San Francisco.
