Stephen Moss Receives Holland & Knight’s Highest Individual Leadership Award
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (February 15, 2018) – Holland & Knight Partner Stephen Moss is the recipient of the firm’s highest individual leadership honor, the 2018 Chesterfield Smith Lawyer Award.
The Chesterfield Smith Lawyer Award is given to Holland & Knight partners who have dedicated a substantial portion of their professional life to the establishment, management, promotion and leadership of the firm. The award was established in honor of Chesterfield Smith, the architect of Holland & Knight who dedicated his professional life to creating, promoting and building the firm.
"Stephen exemplifies all of the qualities for which the Chesterfield Smith Award is given," said Steven Sonberg, managing partner of Holland & Knight.
Mr. Moss formed the Fort Lauderdale office in 1980 and helped guide the firm through significant growth outside of Florida in the late 1990s. He has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as a past Real Estate Section leader.
In the community, Mr. Moss champions many of Holland & Knight's public service initiatives and is known for collaborating with his clients on volunteer projects that are representative of the firm's core values. He is nationally known for his work with veterans and has spearheaded the growth of Mission United, a United Way veterans' assistance program that he helped found nearly five years ago.
Mr. Moss’s influence in the veterans community is recognized nationwide, from the White House to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to the Pentagon, where he has met with and been recognized by the country's leaders. In 2016, Mr. Moss was featured for his Mission United work on the Oprah Winfrey Network's "The Hero Effect," a documentary series that tells the stories of ordinary individuals who are making extraordinary differences in their communities.
"In the veterans community, you are separated by no more than two degrees from Stephen Moss. If someone doesn't know Stephen, then they know Mission United," said Dan Sylvester, chair of Holland & Knight's Veterans Group.
Mr. Moss was honored as Samford University's Humanitarian of the Year and a Deliver the Dream Community Champion in 2016. He received the Carolyn M. Michaels Leadership Award from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce in 2015 and The Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Service Award for the 17th Judicial Circuit in 2014.
