ANCHORAGE, Alaska (January 2, 2020) – Holland & Knight has obtained a preliminary injunction for client Great American Minerals Exploration Inc. (GAME) in its lawsuit against international mining companies Sumitomo Metal Mining and Northern Star Resources. The dispute involves mining claims in interior Alaska with significant potential for gold and valued at as much as $40 million.
The Superior Court for the State of Alaska Third Judicial District at Anchorage granted the preliminary injunction on December 30. It protects GAME's exclusive rights to acquire the mining claims, which the company purchased from Sumitomo in 2018. As GAME was exploring these claims, located between Pogo Mine and Fort Knox, it learned that Sumitomo secretly sold them to a subsidiary of the Australian company Northern Star Resources.
Partner Matt Singer led the firm's representation of GAME. He was assisted by Associate Lee Baxter. Holland & Knight was co-counsel along with Haynes & Boone out of Denver.
