Overview

TJ Auner is a business attorney in Holland & Knight's Dallas office. Mr. Auner focuses his practice on international energy dispute resolution matters and transactions. His dispute-related matters have been before federal and state courts as well as domestic and international arbitration tribunals, including the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), International Code Council (ICC), International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA). His transactional experience includes matters involving the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) Model Form Joint Operating Agreement, unitization agreements, divestments, exploration, development, production, investor-state relations, anti-corruption, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), economic trade sanctions and the enforceability of foreign arbitration awards.

After law school, Mr. Auner did a clerkship with Senior District Judge A. Joe Fish of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

  • Defending foreign entity under an liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreement before the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA)
  • Representing U.S. investors in prosecution of claims under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA)
  • International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) arbitration, prosecuted claims under the United Kingdom – Egypt Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT)
  • Cairo Centre arbitration, prosecuted claims under host-government upstream contracts
  • ICC arbitration, prosecuted preemption right provision under joint operating agreement in West Africa
  • ICC arbitration, prosecuted withdrawal and preemption right provisions under joint operating agreement in North Africa
  • Advised U.S. oil and gas company on antitrust issues associated with forming a joint venture
  • Advises foreign companies on oil and gas trading issues
  • Advises companies on anti-corruption and FCPA compliance
  • Advises companies on compliance with U.S. economic and trade sanctions
  • Advises companies on issues related to the N.Y. Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards
  • Defended discovery requests arising from an international arbitration under 28 U.S. Code § 1782
