Jerry W. Baker

Jerry W. Baker is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Austin office. Mr. Baker advises and assists clients in a broad range of areas, including debt collection and consumer rights, personal injury, product liability, environmental and toxic tort, medical malpractice, business practices and formation, contract analysis and construction, labor and employment, estate planning, asset protection and general civil matters. Mr. Baker's experience involves all aspects of litigation, including participation in depositions, hearings, administrative proceedings and trials in state and federal courts, as well as representing clients on appeal.

For the past several years, Mr. Baker has served as general counsel for a Texas hospital district, a political subdivision of the state of Texas. As general counsel, he routinely advises the district on governmental matters, including the Open Meetings Act, Public Information Act and local elections, in addition to any employment or compliance issues that may arise. Mr. Baker represents the district in any litigation filed against or on behalf of the district, including medical malpractice, premises liability and contractual matters. He also regularly handles contract negotiations with vendors, physicians and other governmental entities.

Mr. Baker is well versed in matters relating to debt collection and has represented clients around the state pursuing outstanding obligations throughout the entire collection process. He has also been engaged by the Office of Attorney General as post-judgment receiver on behalf of the state of Texas.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Baker was an attorney at the East Texas office of a major regional law firm. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
