Nicholas P. Chiara is an associate in Holland & Knight's New York office and a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group. Mr. Chiara is a patent attorney who handles both patent litigation and patent prosecution, with an emphasis on pharmaceuticals. He counsels clients on issues of infringement, validity and enforceability of patents. He also has experience in trademark and copyright laws. In addition, Mr. Chiara represents practitioners on ethics matters in IP practice, including matters before the Office of Enrollment and Discipline at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In addition to representing clients before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, Mr. Chiara assists clients in obtaining patent protection outside the United States by directing international patent prosecution. His experience extends to more than 70 countries.

Mr. Chiara has represented clients in diverse areas of technology, including fine chemicals, small molecule synthesis, processing and filtration equipment, construction materials and industrial machinery.

Mr. Chiara is experienced in all phases of litigation, ranging from pre-suit investigation to trial. 

Mr. Chiara is a frequent guest lecturer at Manhattan College on patent prosecution at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
