Bruce Jay Colan is a partner in Holland & Knight’s Miami office. Mr. Colan practices in the areas of complex business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, public-private partnerships, corporate law, and sports (including team acquisitions and sports facility development, management, operation and finance). His experience includes planning, structuring, negotiating and implementing mergers, acquisitions and dispositions of businesses, corporate and other entities; financings and reorganizations; infrastructure projects; real estate and international transactions; drafting and negotiating intricate technical agreements; and general corporate counseling. Mr. Colan often serves as de facto general counsel to clients that do not have this capability in-house. Among other engagements, Mr. Colan led a team of Holland & Knight attorneys in drafting and negotiating development, management, operating and financing agreements for the Miami Heat with Miami-Dade County for the American Airlines Arena.
Mr. Colan is a past chairman of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. Previously, Mr. Colan led the chamber’s efforts to secure federal and state funding for high-speed rail. He also met periodically with federal and state officials, testified before Congress and spoke various times at high-speed rail conferences.
Mr. Colan is vice president and general counsel for the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee which will be the host of the NFL’s Super Bowl LIV in February 2020.
