Michael F. Kane is an investigative consultant with Holland & Knight and a former Senior Executive with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He has an extensive investigative background and almost forty years of experience.
During his nearly 30 years tenure with the DEA, Mr. Kane served in a number of domestic and foreign posts of duty. He was DEA's Country Attaché in Lima, Peru and served as a Senior Special Agent in Medellin and Bogotá, Colombia. He also served as Senior Liaison Officer to the Counter Narcotics Center at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Va.
While assigned to DEA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., he was Chief of South American operations. In this role, he directed all South American counter-drug programs, provided oversight to investigations targeting international drug cartels and administered the staffing and budgetary requirements of fifteen DEA offices.
As an agent, supervisor and manager Mr. Kane conducted multi-faceted drug investigations and supervised numerous high-impact interstate and international investigations. He has been acknowledged as an expert witness in several Federal judicial districts and is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations in recognition of his achievements and leadership.
Before retiring from government service in May 2000, Mr. Kane was second in command of the DEA in Florida. In this role he was a member of the federal government’s Senior Executive Service achieving the rank of SES 4. As a senior executive he was responsible for developing and implementing strategic programs in support of the DEA's mission.
Since joining Holland & Knight in June 2000, Mr. Kane has assisted with numerous civil and criminal matters being handled by the firm's attorneys on behalf of firm clients. Services rendered include due diligence investigations of persons and corporate entities, asset recovery, accident reconstruction, and witness interviews and depositions. Many of these matters have been interstate and/or international in scope. Mr. Kane's ability to engage the services of associates both within the United States and in the foreign arena have been instrumental in a successful conclusion of these matters.
