Lee Samuelson is a New York real estate attorney who focuses in the areas of real estate acquisitions, dispositions, developments and financing with a strong emphasis in joint ventures, and a focus in the retail, multifamily, office, hotel and data center sectors.

As a major emphasis of his practice, Mr. Samuelson advises public and private, domestic and international clients in complex transactions in a broad range of real estate sectors. These include trophy properties, shopping centers, regional malls, hotels, office buildings, multifamily developments, senior living facilities, industrial properties and mixed-use developments. He regularly represents clients that invest in, develop, own, occupy and finance real estate directly and through joint ventures. Mr. Samuelson also is knowledgeable about a wide variety of commercial leases and architecture, construction and property management agreements.

Mr. Samuelson prides himself on helping clients successfully and efficiently complete transactions, find solutions for complex issues, and coordinate large multi-property transactions around the world, as well as the real estate component of corporate reorganizations and mergers. He has been involved in many international real estate transactions, and he has worked with foreign institutional investors to structure and implement their in-bound real estate joint venture investments and even untangle and resolve "broken" partnerships. Additionally, Mr. Samuelson has advised many U.S.-based investors with their overseas real estate investments.


  • Advised a private family office in a complex joint venture for an acquisition of a class A office building in Arizona and the restructuring of its holding companies
  • Advised a private real estate company in a complex acquisition of a multifamily complex, with multiple levels of joint ventures each with different institutional investors, as well as additional private investors
  • Advised a public hospitality company in the acquisition and joint venture of 50 percent of a hotel in Philadelphia
  • Advised a nonprofit charity in connection with the redevelopment of its property to create a multiuse project, including low income housing, school areas, community center with theaters, pools, gyms and planetarium
  • Advised a group of Mexican investors in the $650 million acquisition of more than 4,600 U.S. apartments from The Blackstone Group
  • Advised a Singapore-based institutional investor on several multifamily property, student housing and office building acquisitions in various locations in the United States as well as a portfolio of data centers throughout the United States
  • Advised a U.S.-based institutional investor in connection with a joint venture acquisition of a portfolio of 13 hotels in Europe
  • Advised ERGO, its asset manager (MEAG) and their affiliates with a number of their real estate joint venture equity and debt transactions
  • Represented a Canadian institutional investor and its affiliates with various real estate joint venture transactions for office, multifamily and hotel properties
  • Advised a U.S. multinational investor in multiple senior housing community transactions, joint ventures and financings, including the acquisition of more than 180 communities and billions of dollars in debt financing
  • Represented a privately owned real estate investment company in its $2.74 billion sale of a portfolio of 101 shopping centers
  • Represented a foreign hedge fund in a bridge loan to an owner regarding developing a hotel in New York
  • Represented New Plan Excel Property Trust in its $6 billion merger with Centro Properties Group, N/K/A Brixmor, along with multiple joint ventures and portfolio acquisitions and dispositions
