Overview

Doug Sloan III focuses his real estate practice on the needs of businesses and individuals in the areas of land use, entitlements, and zoning regulations, regulatory compliance in development, public–private partnerships, and government relations, helping them accomplish their goals in land development and job creation. His more than 20 years of experience working in Nashville Metropolitan Government departments allow him to understand the full spectrum of clients’ real estate and planning needs.

Previously, Mr. Sloan served as the vice president and chief legal officer at Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. He was the planning director for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and managed the Metro Planning Department for several years during Nashville’s recent growth.

Prior to that, he served in the office of Mayor Karl Dean. There, he managed land purchases for Nashville and served as liaison to the Tennessee General Assembly for the city of Nashville. Prior to working in the mayor’s office, Mr. Sloan advised the Codes Department, Planning Department, Water Services, Public Works (NDOT) and a variety of other Nashville Metropolitan Government departments for over 10 years.

Mr. Sloan has written numerous pieces of local legislation for the Metropolitan Council regarding land use and zoning matters, as well as state legislation affecting land development. He has worked closely with the Finance Department of the Metropolitan Government regarding the purchase and sale of publicly owned land. He negotiated public-private partnerships that benefit the community and the private partners involved.

Previously, Mr. Sloan served as a partner for Spencer Fane. He also served as an attorney for Bone McCallester Norton.
