Overview

Andrew Smith is an attorney in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office and a member of the firm's Corporate, M&A and Securities Practice Group.

Mr. Smith has significant experience working on corporate transactions, as well as major policy and regulatory initiatives, combining cross-sector legal, commercial and political acumen. This experience includes international matters, trade and infrastructure proposals, financial services issues, digital asset and payment topics, as well as environmental and energy projects.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Smith was appointed to leadership roles at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. Department of Justice and the International Trade Administration, where he worked on a variety of projects focused on domestic and international finance and key interagency priorities.

Before entering public service, Mr. Smith worked as an analyst and broker with an international investment bank and interdealer brokerage firm. While in the private sector, he managed physical and derivatives transactions across the commodities space – including in the domestic and international energy, base and precious metals, as well as agricultural markets. Additionally, Mr. Smith helped participants manage risk in the renewable energy credit markets across the country, including advising clients on solar and wind farm developments.

During school, Mr. Smith served as a clerk for the Hon. Karon Bowdre of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, in the office of U.S. Senator Richard Shelby and for the chief executive of an international energy producer.
