Contractors Should Prepare Now For Anticipated Cybersecurity Regulations

Government Matters

Government Contracts attorney Eric Crusius spoke with Government Matters about a new White House cybersecurity executive order which will require agencies to take specific actions and meet hard deadlines as new regulations start to roll out. Mr. Crusius notes that government contractors should be ready for the “worst-case scenario” by planning what to do if the executive order leads to heavy cybersecurity regulations in the coming months. The order lays out specific steps contractors will have to take, such as disclosing breaches and tracking the software they use, but is open to interpretation until regulatory agencies solidify the details. He also explains that the government will eventually no longer want to do business with companies who are not compliant, so it is important to stay up to date on regulatory requirements related to cybersecurity.
