Suniva Inc., a U.S. solar panel maker, is petitioning the International Trade Commission to impose tariffs on all foreign-made solar cells. Suniva claims that increased imports have depressed domestic prices enough where it has threatened the ability of U.S. solar manufacturers to function successfully. Solar projects may become even more expensive for developers, which concerns the industry's solar power affordability. Overall, the reputation of the U.S. solar markets are heavily influenced if President Trump vows to boost domestic manufacturing through tariffs.

"The timing of this case is interesting to me, and it indicates to me that the key is the new administration of President Trump," Partner Stephen Humes said. "Perhaps the protectionist themes of Donald Trump may have resonated with Suniva as a last-ditch strategy."
