American Bar Association Recognizes Holland & Knight with Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Services Award

Five individual attorneys are also honored for their pro bono service through the Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 25, 2013 – Holland & Knight has been awarded the American Bar Association (ABA) Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Services Award from the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP) for its extraordinary efforts to help active-duty military servicemen and women in 2012.

Additionally, five Holland & Knight attorneys were recognized with awards for their involvement in the Military Pro Bono Project. They include Charles Naftalin, Andrew Oja and Rafe Petersen in the firm's Washington, D.C. office and Michael Abel and Joshua Roberts in Jacksonville. Each attorney accepted three or more pro bono case referrals through the Project and/or spent 50 or more hours on a case that was resolved in 2012.

Last year, Holland & Knight attorneys responded to a wide range of legal needs including landlord/tenant issues, mortgage and foreclosure concerns, trust and estate matters, and family law matters.

"Each case that is resolved is an important victory for the men and women who sacrifice so much for our country and oftentimes need critical assistance while they are deployed to areas of conflict," said Mary Meixner, ABA staff attorney and project director of legal services. "Holland & Knight's spirit of volunteerism helps each person resume their important military duties so they don't have to worry about their family and finances back home."

Holland & Knight is dedicated to other military initiatives that benefit active-duty service members, veterans and their families, such as the Wounded Warrior Project and United Way's Mission United Initiative. The firm also partners with the ABA's Section of Taxation and the Internal Revenue Service to coordinate a Military Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in various locations.
